Have Dual Dell Monitors with a Nvidia graphics card. Windows 10 initially placed one of the monitors in a 'hidden' status under Device Manager. Only option I had there was to Uninstall. Did that with the hopes that when I shut down system, unpluggedmonitor, restart system and plug in monitor that it would find it and want to install it. This failed, leaving one monitor blackened out and the one connected throughout the uninstall/install process functions properly.
Upon a second shutdown and restart, the 'new' monitor is discovered and a single monitor with the duplicate of images since on the initial monitor. How can I get Windows 10 to recognize 2 seperate monitors that allows me to maximize my workspace again. Worked fine under Windows 7 Professional. Right click on the driver and select update.Connect multiple monitors to your PCNote: The above mentioned steps are also applicable to Windows 10.Thank You. I have a Dell Precision 390 with a nVidia Quadro FX 3450, 256mb graphics card.Windows 10 shows the 2nd monitor as 'hidden' in the Device Manager. I have no way of making it visible. Windows 10 also showed my DVD player as hidden, but I was able to find help in uninstalling the drivers assigned to the DVD player, then shutting downmy system and restarting it. Then Windows 10 found the appropriate drivers and DVD player works. Thought I'd try the same thing with the monitor.
I removed the nVidia graphics drivers, shut down and restarted my computer, but it still 'hides' the 2nd monitor.Once the monitor becomes visible I would be able to follow your instructions. Thanks for the reply, but this does not work. I have determined through nVidia that they have no plans for now to upgrade my video card to support Windows 10.
I have to now locate a new graphics card that will support Windows 10 yet is compatible with anolder system. I had hoped there might be an alternative to what I was doing.
For readers, reverting back to Windows 7 is almost seamless. Again, Windows 7 didn't recognize my internal DVD drive at first, and I simple uninstalled the drivers, shut down andrestarted my computer and then it installed the correct drivers under Windows 7.
As soon as I get a new compatible graphics card, I'll be back to Windows 10.For you readers, the problem is most likely your graphics card and Windows 10, at this point, does not allow you to re-install the drivers that used to work with Windows 7, but will instead, override to generic Windows drivers if Windows 10 determines yourgraphics drivers are incompatible. Check with the manufacturers regarding compatibility with ALL your drivers BEFORE you switch to Windows 10, even if Microsoft's system analysis told you that your system was compatible with Windows 10. I had the same issue with dual monitors on my son's Dell Dimension 9100 (about the same vintage as your Dell) as these were originally Windows XP machines.
I nevergot the DVD drive to work either because it's an old IDE interface. I replaced it with a new $15and for an additional $35. Dual monitors are now working.Good luck,Jay. Thanks as well. My problem went away when I went back to Win 8.1 and then reloaded/installed Win10. I have a similar problem with my nVidia driver, and, while I am back to 2-screen operation using the 'extend display.'
, I can not direct where programsopen. The nVidia control panel doesn't identify both monitors.
Some seem to open on the 2nd screen, while some seem to open on the main screen. That's a small, but irritating problem that I'll live with for a while.
I expect that has to do with the nVidiadriver, not Win10.As an aside, another issue I had was with printers. I have a Brother Laserjet for b/w, and a Brother Multi-function for fax, scan, etc., and also for color printing. I ended up having to unisntall the printer drivers and re-install them to get it to print(It scanned back to the computer just fine, but no printing).
After the re-install all seems to be working.Again, thanks to everyone, I know they're trying. I'm not sure that Win10 is any different/better for me as I work from a keyboard and still using the old dinosaur - a desktop, to launch everything:). I am also experiencing great difficulty with Windows 10 and multiple monitors. And, it really.
me off. I knew to follow the steps indicated above. None of them worked. I have made absolutely sure that I have installed the latest drivers for allmy monitors and all my graphics cards. And, I have contacted the manufacturers of the graphics cards to see if their drivers and hardware support Windows 10. They are so snowed under with interface problems that I have no hopes of getting an answer anytimesoon. Even before I reached out to get answers from the vendors of the hardware, I searched on-line.
There is nothing that would help with this problem. Only the instructions above, which do not work.Time spent trying to fix this Windows 10 problem? 38 hours, and counting.Windows 10AMD Fx-8100, 8 core processors, 2.8 GHz8 G Ram5 Samsung 940a 1280 x 1080 monitorsATI Radeon 3000 Graphics card (2 monitors)AMD Radeon HD 7700 Graphics card (1 monitor)UV Plus 12, 19 (2 monitors)It all worked just fine in Windows 8.1. Unfortunately, Windows 10 has a number of issues:1.
No matter what I try, it will only recognize 4 of the 5 monitors.2. It will not recognize the UV Plus 12.3. It treats two of the monitors as if they are the same monitor (mirroring)Truly, I deplore Microsoft. When I look back on my life shortly before death, among my dying wishes. I would like to have back all the time I spend trying to fix issues with my hardware because of the poor job Microsoft does coding its junky software.I have replaced my entire home with Apple gear with the exception of this desktop.
It stays, only because there is one primary application that will not run in the Apple environment. But, there will come a day soon that I can finally rid myself of allthe problems that Bill Gates has put on my doorstep. Including allowing his company to product YET ANOTHER piece of junk operating system.
